     Camille Rose Garcia had a book signing at MK Gallery last weekend! How awesome is that? I'll tell you.... VERY awesome! 

Gina and I both ADORE her work and would probably mortgage our house to buy an original if we actually owned this house and could mortgage it. She's that awesome. And now that Gina has met her in person and we know what a total and complete sweetheart she is, we love her even more! G braved a total downpour to wait in line to get all of our books signed and we were hoping she'd sign maybe a few of them (we have a lot!!!), but she enthusiastically signed them all then took a few moments to takes pics too! Stellar.

Bored In LA?

If any of you lovelies are desperately searching for a fabulous place to spend tomorrow evening, then do we have the place for you!

This should definitely be a fun affair, a dark formal venetian inspired club DJ'd by some of the best in LA with an absinthe bar and an art gallery! And if that wasn't enough, we'll be there with bells on peddling our wares in the parlour!

Let it Rain

Another gloomy and rainy day here yesterday. it's supposed to rain again for the next two days.

It's odd for L.A., but I have to say, I rather enjoy it. It's refreshing to see your surroundings in a new light. The city that is always alive and bright and electric becomes quiet and calm, subdued.

Everything looks greener and more vivd somehow.

This is my barren porch tree. It looks dark and gloomy, but there is definitely something serene about it too.

     Happy New Year everyone! 

Isn't it always such an invigorating, exciting time? The prospect of starting over, beginning a new chapter in life, a fresh slate, so to speak... It's fantastic. I'm very excited about this year, we have many new projects on our books and we can't wait for everything to be unveiled.

But in the meantime, we're very much enjoying the quiet that the post-holiday time brings.

Especially here in Los Angeles, it feels completely surreal. The streets become deserted as everyone heads for new and exciting places to ring in the New Year. LA becomes a veritable ghost town, and truth be told, it's incredible.

Proof in point:

I just snapped this photo of Hollywood Blvd, a street which is always filled to the brim with cars, buses and a permanent menagerie of people with multi-colored hair on bicycles.

And today, as it was yesterday, and the day before.....completely empty. You can cruise the length of the Sunset Strip in a matter of minutes, and there is the distinct feeling that the entire city has stopped moving.

It's a welcome and refreshing change from the status quo of constant activity here. And always such an appropriate way to welcome a new year.

Hopefully all of you out there are having an equally peaceful and serene start to 2009!

Safonkin Solo

    So yesterday was an incredibly gorgeous day in L.A. - the skies were magnificently clear. You could see for miles in every direction, and everything looked and smelled CLEAN, crisp, and green. And trust me, this is a rare occurrence here. So I decided to take a break from the mundane and go experience something extraordinary.

I skipped over to Hollywood to check out the new solo exhibit of Russian surrealist Viktor Safonkin at one of my most favorite local galleries, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery on LaBrea. Safonkin is a much lauded artist overseas, and this is his first North American solo exhibit, and it was spectacular.

There is nothing like being instantly pulled into an artists world, especially one where reality seems completely skewed yet somehow completely accurate.

The work is stunning in person, immensely richer and more beautiful than I expected. So much so that I almost felt completely overtaken by it all. The powerful imagery of the work and the deep mythic and religious overtones gave me the distinct feeling I was gazing upon something ancient and epic.

Which made me simultaneously love the work, revere the artist, and covet the pieces all at once.

I think I'll have to make another trip just to truly take it all in...
