Holiday Fuel

   The holiday rish is almost over and it's been such a great, fun ride this year! We've been living on round the clock coffee trips, filling in the gaps at home when a run to Starbucks seems just too daunting. We've kept ourselves well caffeinated and hard at work in order to get everything out on time, and although we're still cranking holiday orders out we can see the light at the end of the tunnel! We always love this time of year, the pace of work, the colder weather, the busy shopping and crafting and shipping and decorating. Nothing quite compares to it.

But most of all, you guys will never know how happy it makes us to know that our pieces are sitting wrapped beneath your trees right now, ready to be opened on Christmas morning! We hope each and every one will bring beaming smiles and happiness to their new owners! It's such an awesome feeling, and we're eternally grateful to every single one of you for letting us be a small part of your holiday season. It's been absolutely magical!

Weird Science

   Over the last few weeks we've been nurturing a school science project over here, which has been simultaneously gross and completely awesome! Subject? The effects of acids on bones. The kiddo immersed bones in vinegar, soda, lemon juice (and water for a control) and let them sit. We monitored the progress daily, and as it turns out, bones get pretty rubbery while in prolonged contact with organic acid! Kinda cool, right? The bone we sat in lemon juice was literally able to bend like rubber! Try it!

Mark Laita: Sea

   I just discovered Mark Laita - In an attemot at decompression form a hectic day I was quietly cruising the internets before deciding to turn in for the night and stumbled upon the most amazingly beautiful nature photography. If you can even call it that, because it's so much more than that!

I have always had a strong love for the ocean, for the water, for the animals who live within it, and still find myself inexplicably drawn to this surreal and mysterious world we know so little about. (I actually was so in love with this undersea world that for quite some time I had convinced myself I was going to be a Marine Biologist, until a chance reading of a Jane Gooddall book lead me to an intense fascination with Dianne Fossey. Which, in turn, lead me to profess my love of anthropology and decided to live in the mountains with gorillas like my newfound idol. I was committed to this idea for years, until the apathy that seeps in during the late teen years really took hold and I traded my utopian field research fantasies for some Cure albums, a black wardrobe, and a ridiculous amount of art supplies. But I digress.)

My love of sea life has always been sitting there, just under the surface, and when I happened opn these images I was immediately taken right back to that 9 year old kid who could spend hours in the pet store gazing into the aquariums if she could. The images are so captivating, and pure, and stripped bare of any outside dialogue that you are forced to just see the animals for the complex and incredible creatures they are. They are honest images, and they are exceptionally artistic all at once. I find myself being entranced all over again by the fluid movements of these exotic fish, and I can instantly and vividly remember how innocently I fell in love with them as a kid, and why. I love that Mark Laita has brought that out in my adult self with this collection of images. They truly are incredible. I'll e heading off to dreamland now with a heavy dose of nostalgia and some ethereal imagery which hopefully will find it's way into my dreams.

Too hot in this town

   It's been soooo hot in L.A. lately, all week temps have been over 100 and it's miserable. Summer was so mild but it looks like Mother Nature is definitely making up for it now. Even the cat looks like she's going to melt! It's Fall! Starbucks has Pumpkin Spice Lattes! The sun is setting early! This is not right. Not right at all. I am not amused...I am sunburned, sweaty, and not amused! What I wouldn't give for some NYC rain right now.

Fall Fashion Trend: Alligator, Snakeskin, and Ostrich, oh my!

   Have you guys picked up ANY fashion magazine's September issue yet? Omg, I have a few here and they are LOADED with not only amazingly gorgeous ads for the fall collections, but are completely overflowing with exotic leathers! I love seeing so much alligator and snakeskin everywhere! Looks like every shade possible in every exotic leather imaginable is going to be pretty pervasive in the coming months, and I am so completely more than fine with that. Not only because we happen to offer every shade possible in every exotic leather imaginable in our Etsy shop, but because there is something just so glam and luxe and intensely rich about rocking ultra exotic textures in the winter. I can't imagine anything cooler than heading out into the cold fall months with your tweeds and trenches while wearing eye-popping snakeskin boots or a bold alligator bag! And everyone is on this trend right now! And not just fashion's heavy hitters like Prada, Gucci, and Valentino, but I mean absolutely everyone! (Even the notoriously subdued and too cool for school urban sophisticate Alexander Wang has a few ostrich clutches in his newest offerings. Which, by the way, are all gorg.)

I'm definitely in love with a few pieces from these collections, but if you are too and can't spring for a few new $3000 bags this Fall (not happening here either!), we think we know what might satisfy the craving. Just saying!

Even Ralph Lauren is in the exotics game this season, remember him? (That was snarky. I'm sorry Ralph. Nice alligator satchel!)

And Michael Kors has some pretty pared down black snakeskin featured in his new campaign ads... You know what would totally look amazing with that clutch? We do.

I am fully aware that this is probably the most random post EVER, and am totally fine with it. You know why? Because Tigers underwater are AWE-SOME! It's my new fascination... get into it.

Obsessed: Hayden Harnett's Bespoke Scarf Service

    I very recently stumbled upon this most amazing of amazing ideas... bespoke printed scarves! I truly can't think of anything more incredible, more inspired, or just downright cooler than this. Hayden Harnett just launched their bespoke scarf service where you can upload any image you'd like and turn it into a silk scarf! I have to say, I haven't even placed an order yet and I'm already addicted. There are just so many possibilities! This is not only one of the most beautiful ways I can think of to preserve and enjoy that favorite photo you have stored away, but also the completely perfect gift for that person who has everything. I have a million images I'd love to be able to turn into scarves, the hardest is going to be choosing those extra special few!

Pricing starts at $110 and turnaround time is about 3 weeks.

I have a feeling this is going to be extremely detrimental to my bank account, but oh, so so worth it!
