Leopard Print Calf Hair = Awesomeness!

So, we've been MIA for a bit... about two weeks ago we decided to head out to a big huge pumpkin patch to pick our own pumpkins on the vine and I ended up being bitten by some mysterious insects I *think* were fire ants, but the end result was a full on week of high fevers, body aches, sweats and chills and general epic unpleasantness! Thankfully it's passed and we can get back to business and start sprucing up the shop for the holidays! We just finished up some new calf hair pieces in a gorgeous traditional leopard print and we couldn't be happier with them! It's such a silky, luxurious hair on leather and we're completely in love with the print! Super fun, super chic, and a perfect way to get in on the snimal print trend without running the risk of looking like a one person member of an 80's hair metal tribute band! 

So without further ado, our first post-fever offerings! Hope you guys love them! They'll be up in the shop today!

Inspiration Du Jour

Happy Birthday Little Man!

   There was a birthday this week at UNEARTHED central! One of the little munchkins turned 10! We had a little party at home to celebrate. We ordered in a bounty of sushi from his most favorite restaurant Burning Bonzai. They have the best sashimi in town and this little dude can sooo pack it away! The dinner was eaten with such enthusiasm and gusto that we didn't manage any pics of the numerous and exotic rolls, but we got others from the night. Very cake-centric though! 

Hard to believe my little guy is in the double digits now, what an exciting age! So much to look forward to, so much to learn and experience! I feel so lucky to have this little boy in my life, I hope whatever he wished for while blowing out those candles comes true for him tenfold.

Weekend Company

Look what we found the other day! A bright green gorgeous adult praying mantis!

One of the kids decided to go bike riding around the block and after heading out the door quickly came running back in breathless and looking for a jar... unfortunately we were completely jar-free at the moment, but I offered up a small drinking glass and a trusty sheet of paper and with those crude insect hunting tools this beautiful guy was expertly caught! And caught unharmed, at that! We brought him in and admired him (her?) for a while then sent him back out into the world. It was definitely exciting for the kids, after all, it's not every day you find a giant green mantis hanging out on your bike!

Photo Diary: Fin Whale Hall at NHMLA

This is one of the most serene, beautiful, and just simply sublime exhibits at the Natural History Museum. The entire hall is empty except for the lone skeleton of a fin whale. The milky blue floors suggest water and undulating currents while recorded whale songs are played through speakers set in the walls. It's majestic, and surreal, and the sparseness of the environment leaves you with no other chice but to fully feel the power of this animal that once lived and breathed and swam in the waters of this planet. I was left with a profoundly personal and exquisite experience here.

Red Stingray + How Awesome is John Waters?!

So totally feeling this Cry Baby vibe right now thats all over The Style Rookie (and besides the amazing hair and make-up who doesn't love John Waters!?) - something about the bright red lips and scarf! I think it subconsciously inspired me to make and list these in the shop:

I can totally see a glammed up edgy version of that retro look played out with some great Rick Owens leather and one of these cuffs, can't you?

First Time On The Ice!

  This past weekend the kiddies were invited to a birthday party held at the local ice skating rink. I don't know why, but we've never been ice skating all together before! In fact, the kids had never been ice skating, ever! So I was pretty excited to take them and watch them experience for the first time the wobbly excitement of stepping onto the ice. We rented the skates, laced them up, and the kids headed out... it took one trip around the rink with a death-grip on the railing before my oldest one got the hang of it, but half way around the little one made an abrupt u-turn and fought his way against the flow of ice traffic back to the safety of the rubber mat flooring. He was not having it and didn't step another foot onto the ice for the rest of the day! But all in all the consensus was that it was a well spent day of fun, and I have the feeling we'll be seeing much more of that rink in the near future!

Duo Tone Leather Cuffs?!

So what do we think of these?! I've pondered introducing duo toned capped cuffs to the shop some time ago, but never actually took the idea too seriously until a completely awesome customer approached us with the very same idea! So we've created a few sample pieces to test the waters...

Alexander McQueen S/S12 Collection

   OMG, I've been trying not to salk the McQueen Twitter page all day to no avail. I caved and went into full on web stalker mode because today the Spring 2012 collection was exhibited at Paris Fashion Week. And heaven on earth was it so worth it. The collection is riciculous amazing gorgeous. It took Sarah Burton a little while to hit her stride with the house, but she has definitely hit it. I normally hate Spring collections, and while I always get that little giddy and uber excited feeling before a McQueen show I honestly wasn't expecting anything mindblowing... but my mind was totally blown! Everything about this collection is gorgeous, from the color palette of nudes and coral red and black to the the armor-like designs which evoked so strongly the pre-Burton era of McQueen when Lee himself ruled his brand.

The juxtaposition of the inviting ultra feminine with the hard edged aceents was inspired and done to perfection. It's easy to create a harsh juxtaposition of elements, but even harder to do it effortlessly and extremely well, which Burton has definitely done. (I'm obsessing over the shoes though, can not wait to see those in greater detail!) I'm so thrilled to not be disappointed but instead fall instantly in love with this collection. It's part of the reason why I fell in love with Alexander McQueen to begin with all those years ago - the collections inspired a viscreral reaction, and immediate pull, and instant desire to live momentarily in the world walking down the runway. I love having that feeling again.

We just finished up this really awesome custom order! It's black metallic alligator, or rather, black alligator with a metallic gunmetal grey powdered diamond overglaze. We think it cam eout pretty awesome and just wanted to share!

OMG: Louboutin Lion Paw Shoes

If I could only have one pair of crazy awesome shoes for the rest of my life, these would be it. Forget every sinlgle other shoe I've ever obsessed about and professed my undying WANT for - it was all just puppy love. This, on the other hand, is the real thing. I can't even exress how in love I am with these. I'm dumbstruck. The baddest shoes ever created? Oh, I think so. Curse you, Christian Louboutin and your ridiculously amazing shoes. And their $4,495 price tag. You really outdid yourself with this one.

The First Rain of Autumn

The first rain of the season came yesterday. It was overcast and gloomy all day. Big fluffy stone colored clouds moved in and out and blanketed the city, but the weather remained warm and monsoon like, which was actually quite pleasant! It began raining sporadically in the afternoon, then a bit more heavily closer to dusk. Once it dissipated we were left with a sunset that looked like this, and a double rainbow. It was absolutely magical.
